Home Sweet Home

We made it home from South Carolina, safe and sound...but to a beeping smoke detector. Of course, we didn't have any extra 9V batteries lying around, so Justin had to go get one...and then he got a call that our new guy's shirts were ready, along with the girl's hoodie...so he went to VA Beach to go pick them up. He might get home some time tonight :) SC was fun! It was so nice to see all of my family...The pictures are from today, we had a nice family breakfast at none other than Cracker Barrel (or as Alana calls it "Crack Up Barrel")...I didn't get pictures of everyone, but you get the idea. We had such a relaxing weekend...and Justin made a new buddy (Ayden)...He wanted to bring him home with us, but his momma wasn't having it (and neither was I for that matter...) haha. I'm home for a few days and then it's off to my next destination--Florida! Alana and I are going to rack up some more frequent flier miles to go visit Papa and Grandma Nancy for the holidays, while Justin is out to sea for hopefully his last time this year. I hope everyone had a blessed Thanksgiving and got to spend some good ol' quality time with those you love most.

Sizes...

I am getting a lot of feedback on the new shirts, which I am completely thankful for....keep it coming! It seems there is a bit (ok, a LOT) of confusion concerning the sizing. I have had a sizing chart on the bottom of the girl's page, which I now moved to the top...It lists the sizes, copied straight from American Apparel. And they are printed on the Girly Fine/Classic Girl tees. I am putting in another order for shirts, so if anyone is thinking about ordering soon do it now! I will be going out of town this coming weekend and then the first week of December...so get your orders in :)

Thank ya, Thank ya very much...uh HUH.

All of my recent posts have been pretty much me pushing Just As I Am Clothing on you...which I am not ashamed of, by the way :) Yet while preparing to enter a week of Thanksgiving, I thought I would take a minute to reflect on the things I am most thankful for. This could turn into another 100 list...but it won't, because I'll try and abridge. I will say this, I am extremely blessed...So here goes!

~My God...How great is He? I don't know where I would be without Him, and my heart breaks for people who do not know Him, because I can't imagine living a day in my life without faith...and my life is good!
~My marriage. Wow, marriage is not easy breezy all of the time. But I am thankful that Justin and I know that when you live the way God has planned for you, it makes it a lot easier :) In fact, it makes it one of the greatest gifts of all!
~I have the best family anyone could ask for...This extends from Justin and Alana (Portas Team) to my own parents and siblings, siblings-in-law, grandparents, to Justin's family (which, now, would be mine as well haha)...Specifically, I am thankful to have the most amazing and wonderful parents. They have loved me when maybe I didn't know how to love myself...and they have taught me by example how to be a good parent.
~There is a roof over my head, even if it is also the same roof that keeps the mice warm...
~I can't remember a time I've been truly "hungry" in my entire life...although, I can remember a time when I went without things solely by choice...
~My friends are like no other. They are the ones who love unconditionally and would give the shirt of their backs if needed.
~The military. Yes, I said the military. It's a love/hate relationship I have, but in all reality anyone who knows me knows the amazing changes the military has brought into my life.
~Time with my husband. So many people take this simple thing for granted. I am thankful for having learned to make every moment count. Justin, I love you.
~Noggin. It allows me to do things like post on my blog when Alana is awake :)
~My health. I may not be in top model shape, but I am generally healthy and (knock on wood) don't get sick much.
~Just As I Am Clothing...okay, I threw it in there--so sue me! :) This has truly been the most challenging and rewarding project I've been a part of. And I'm thankful for all the support we've had in the process...
~My blog-reader-friend-a-ma-jigs. Whether you are a faithful commenter or just one who lurks from time-to-time...I appreciate each and everyone of you for thinking I'm kewl enough and for caring what I have to blab on about from day to day. Some days I think Justin is most grateful for you all (jk!)

This week will be filled spending time with family and friends, football, and turkey (no tofurkey this year, sorry PETA)...I hope it is a safe and blessed week and that everyone will take a minute (or two or three) to think about what they really have to be thankful for...

The time has come...

The wait is over...thank you for your patience. The girl's shirts are now up on the site finally (www.justasiamclothing.com)! I hope that everyone will take a look and give me some feedback. They were not modeled this time, and I personally apologize HAHA...but it's TOO cold outside and Justin is working...so I would never have been able to post them! The girl's hoodie, track jacket, and toddler shirts will be coming soon...I have to keep you coming back for something :) I hear jingle bells, and I know the perfect gift! And remember, all shirts are now printed on American Apparel (thank you, Jon)! Until next post...

They're Baaaaaack...and it's Veteran's Day!

I hadn't been awake for 10 minutes yesterday when I saw a mouse run across the floor downstairs...What am I going to do? And of course, it has to be Veteran's Day today...which means that the exterminators are taking the day off :) Thank you Melanie, for the thoughts and prayers...it's funny that you said that really. Justin only gets to go to church every other week, and then if he misses a Sunday because he's gone or whatever, it might be a month or 6 weeks that he can't go...So we were having this conversation on the way to church yesterday, specifically that he likes to go to church and not think about the Navy for an hour or so...and when we walked up to the door, the greeters excitedly said "Happy Veteran's Day weekend"...Justin shot me a look like "grrrreat". He doesn't like getting recognized for being in the military, but literally 2/3 of our church is military...Luckily the service didn't revolve around patriotism or anything. That might have sent him over the edge, haha. Today is my first day without Lucas, and it's really quiet. I miss the little booger already...but it's nice to have some time with Alana, too. We are making plans for the holidays. It's great being married, but ever since I gained that extended family we get stretched super thin...I think this year it's going to work out so that we get to spend the time we want to with everyone! In December we will be everywhere from Florida back to Virginia and to Nashville...So yeah, it will be busy...but that's what it's all about! As soon as I get the new shirts (was hoping today, but of course...it's Veteran's Day still), we'll get them printed and put up on the website. I hope that everyone else will be as excited about them as I am. Justin is so devoted to it, he is donating bone marrow just so he can get an extra day off in the future to work on them haha. Ok, so that's partially true. I am going to go try and psych myself out...my mantra for the day is "I'm bigger than a mouse, it can't beat me"...or something like that :)

Feliz Cumpleanos...to me!

My birthday is coming to a close...It has been nice, but to be honest it hasn't felt like my birthday AT ALL! Natalia brought me a balloon and some cute things...I posted a picture of the Twizzlers from Lucas (the close-up you can read the box)...Alana helped make cupcakes for me...I got phone calls from all of those people I care about the most...except my hubby! I even made sure he had minutes on his "ship to shore" calling card, and guess what? The phones are down on board. Go figure! I miss him immensely, but again it's all part of this life I have become accustomed to. Oh and Natalia and I pigged out on chinese food tonight for dinner...My body is hating me right now, but tomorrow is another day :) Thank you all for the birthday wishes! They mean more to me than you will ever know! Ugh, I'm old!

Excitement!

I have some exciting news! Just As I Am Clothing will soon be releasing an entire line of shirts specifically for GIRLS (yay!) and some new styles for the GUYS too! The new shirts will be by American Apparel, which I am told is used by RK for their softer, more vintage feel. Also coming...girl's hoodies...and unisex track jackets! I'll let you know when the new arrivals are up! Woohoo! And a special thanks to the TWO Just As I Am shirt wearers who were at the RK concert in Atlanta last night! Jon said one even got pulled on stage. Nice! Love you all!

Could it Be?

Could the pacifier thing be a mere memory already? Alana went to bed last night without a fuss...I got a good night's sleep, just an early wake up thanks to the good ol' daylight savings. Why do kids not understand the concept of time change? :) I need a good nap right now, but Alana refuses to sleep and in order to keep Lucas asleep, I have to give in and let Alana stay awake. I guess it's better than nothing...Going to buy stuff for NON-vegan cupcakes tonight, lol. Alana is making me cupcakes for my birthday. Sweet, huh? I'm sure the kids will be behaving really lovely when they are stuffed full of cupcakes, not to mention the remnants of Alana's Halloween candy. I can hardly wait!

Build a Bear, Crush a Child

Anyone who knows Alana, knows that she has 3 things that have been her "security" basically her whole life...The things she must carry with her (at least in the car) when we go somewhere and sleep with...Her puppy, "paci", and blanket. For the most part, this isn't a big deal...but seriously, no 3 year old needs a pacifier! However, it is no one's fault but my own for letting her have it all this time. I blame part of it on the fact that I'm pretty much a single mom most of the time, so it's "easy"...I also thought that she would eventually get rid of it on her own, considering none of her friends have them...Well, that didn't happen. So I came up with a brainiac plan to free her from her pacifier....I thought I'd wait until Justin was gone during this transition period, because he needs sleep at night and I was sure none of us would be getting any of that once the pacifier went bye-bye! Yesterday, my mom and I took Alana to Build-A-Bear for the first time. I've been prepping her for this by telling her (every time we pass by the store) that when she gives up the paci she can build one. Then I came up with an even BETTER idea :) Let's put the pacifier IN the bear, so she can sleep with it still, but in a different way. She was so excited while she built her puppy...she didn't want an actual "bear". I was thrilled to have my mom there, because I just knew that once the puppy was sewn shut she was going to have an all-out meltdown. I watched as Alana put her pacifier in the puppy's belly...then she stuffed it...made a wish on a heart and put that in there, too. The lady sewed it shut and I took a huge sigh of relief when we got out of the store without incident. Time passed...no nap for Alana...the more tired she got, the more she started hating her new puppy. She would kinda kick it on the floor. She went to bed pretty easily, but at around midnight I was awaken by the shrieking and screaming and kicking of my little girl. Who knew? Haha. Let's just say it was a long night...thank you daylight savings time for that extra much-needed hour. One night down, maybe tonight will be much easier...maybe! She is dressing her puppy right now, which she named "Kassie the Paci Puppy"...The birth certificate proves it! Here's to no more pacifiers...and a good night's rest tonight!

Baby, it's COLD outside!

The time has come...the weather has changed...Just As I Am Clothing now has hoodies available! They are the coolest (well, warmest) thing in town! Check it out on the "New Arrivals" page at www.justasiamclothing.com and get one before you freeze!!! And I will attest, they are the softest and coziest hoodie around!

Trick or Treat

Happy day after Halloween! It's funny how some things take on a whole new meaning once you have children. I don't think I ever cared so much about costumes and candy until now :) Alana had dance and she dressed up for that, as did some of her fellow ballerinas...and Miss Tracy, too! Last night we went to our military community's Halloween shindig, which was basically in our backyard, on the baseball fields. It was tons of fun! They had hay games, ring the pumpkin, big jumpy ordeals for Alana to go wild on...and of course, lots of candy! We didn't stay for too long, because it was coooooold as soon as the sun went down. Living on the bay is the windiest thing since Chicago. When we got home, Alana pumped herself full of as much candy as she could before bedtime...funny how that works. Who knew she could open hershey's kisses and reeses peanut butter cups all on her own? Justin's ship is pulling out in the morning, and while I am extremely upset that he will not be here for my birthday next week...I have come to terms with the fact that it's just part of life as a Navy wife. And at the same time, I got the best surprise, that my mom is flying in tomorrow to celebrate with me this weekend! I'm super excited about having her here! It's cool, though...when you get to be as old as me, birthdays mean less and less I suppose...And by the way, in lieu of gifts...buy yourself a shirt from www.justasiamclothing.com :)
